the black angels

By Shawn Van De Peppel

The de facto leader of the current psych-rock movement, The Black Angels, is paying another welcome visit to Montreal on Feb. 12. This, their second visit during the band’s Indigo Meadow album tour, is going to be an extra special, unique night, for one reason: Roky Erickson. The man who is assumed to be responsible for psychedelic rock, having fronted The 13th Floor Elevators, and who has had The Black Angels as his backing band before, will be one of the openers of the night. Can we expect some musical jams between the two? Hopefully. At the very least, you will get to see a legend of the genre and the very band that is carrying the torch for it (Christian Bland, The Black Angels’ main man, is also responsible for the incredible Austin Psych Fest, held yearly in Austin Texas, where both Erickson and The Black Angels hail from.)

Tickets will be available at the door.
